Looks like the Reds got their own Christmas gift with the signing of reliever Jared Hughes. 2-yr, $4.5M with a $3M option for 2020($250K buyout). Really good signing to help the bullpen

Is this part of the Reds problem? Big Bob C. going with his heart instead of his head? He should give guidance, but let his baseball people do their thing and run the team.

The #Reds have listened to Billy Hamilton trade offers all winter (most notably from #SFGiants), but owner Bob Castellini would have to approve any deal. "I hope Billy Hamilton is with us forever,'' Castellini said last January. I'm told his feelings on the topic haven't changed.

So, I don't blame Bob for not wanting to deal Hamilton, when it would be a shitty return for him. Now, if there have been offers from any other team, I'd sure like to know about it. Then I could have an opinion on if Bob needs to pull his head out of his ass. But from my viewpoint, he's making the right call (or is it really a non-call on his part, since the Giants won't give up their top prospect?). Until a trade can be made, Hamilton is still the starting CF for us and he's a positive PR presence for the organization as well.

This is what happened with the rebuild. Bob not wanting to let go of players then when deciding the Reds didn’t maximize their opportunities

Looks like the front office is determined that the bullpen is going to be as little of a liability as possible. That could be pretty damn nice if the rotation settles down and performs.

If healthy we have a full rotation of able and/or the most talented prospects in there. If the bullpen isn't a bleeding anus it could get interesting!

Can't help but to think that we could get a 3-way deal done...
Giants... get Hamilton (and get to keep their top prospect, since we can't pry him from them) Reds... get Yelich Marlins... get a decent package from the Giants & Reds combined.
The Marlins end of the deal would be the hardest to put together to their satisfaction... and doing so would most assuredly mean that we're giving up more than the Giants would.
Our front office probably can't think in those terms though.

I like it, but are Giants still even interested in Hamilton after trading from McCutchen? It appears that they are still looking for a CF'er and plan on playing McCutchen in RF. At least MLBTradeRumors seems to think so anyhow.

Well, shit... the Brewers get Yelich and then some. They made quite a splash today.
Looks like it's going to be another downer of a season, honestly. The Central is pretty well loaded with the Cubs, Cards, and Brewers. But hey, at least we're not Shittsburg! We should be able to stay out of the cellar, if the pitching cooperates.
