Hell, that might mean that Peraza's days are numbered.
They'll probably lose Herrera on waivers though, when they decide to use Pennington as the backup. *eyeroll*
I mean, that's just how things seem to go with the decision making. It ends up being bad.

So, let's see what has been going on so far...
Signed OF Ben Revere to minor league deal w/ spring invite. Eh. This looks like a setup for a Hamilton deal. Revere plays all three OF positions at an average level. Otherwise, he's just a mediocre piece added to an outfield that is pretty well covered.
Signed lefty Oliver Perez to minor league deal w/ spring invite. This looks like it's on the plus side. Overall, Perez isn't that interesting. But his numbers against major league lefty batters are pretty good. If he ended up in the bullpen as a lefty specialist, it would probably work. But we know that Price tends to not use his pitchers like that.
Senzel is getting a lot of work at SS. GOOD!
Reds get righty Miguel Medrano from the Rangers in exchange for some international slot money. Dunno... he's only pitched in the Dominican summer league so far.
Signed righty Ben Rowen to minor league deal w/ spring camp invite. This looks like it could go either way. There's a reason why he's been in the minors for so long, so that doesn't look good at all (and he got torched last year with the Mets AAA affiliate in Las Vegas). But he's a side-armer with good ground ball numbers.
Lost arbitration case with Scooter Gennett. Eh. That will probably get him sent out of Cincy a little bit sooner.
Voided contract with righty Jeff Manship. GOOD!
Signed Cliff Pennington on minor league deal w/ spring camp invite. Middle infielder. Not good. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make the 25-man.
So, who's going to crack the 25-man? We're used to an organization that makes bad decisions, especially this time of year.

Other than my ears perking up when I saw Senzel's name I felt like I was reading Sanskrit! Clay good write up brother. Over the years the approach to this time of year always changes. I remember being so enthusiastic before 2012 season it was almost cerebral masturbatory! By August I looked like a roasted pig with glazed eyes! I was having OBE's through September I was so burnt out! So I take it pretty slow til about mid March. I'm reading and soaking it in though. I can't wait to do my 25 man projected roster only stats in a few weeks. The real look inside the numbers! The pot is on the stove with water warming. Not anywhere near a slow boil!

Random Wednesday thoughts.
Disco sounds like he's feeling good. I have written him off because of health concerns but this is big.
I know I am on an island here but I really do think Peraza can hit.
Does anybody want anybody but Tyler Mahle to get the 5 spot? Call me crazy but I don't even want Finnegan in there but Romano. Davis I know you are loving that last line!
Ben Revere is an absurdity and makes no kind of sense on this team. If he gets any serious playing time that will be ridiculous.
Bob Steve still sucks. He is just going to be a complete bust.
Starting to rethink my negative opinion on Garrett. That he is a smoke and mirrors and no stuff and no peripherals guy. He was unhealthy last season so he gets a fresh slate from me.
When weighing our entire outfield only Winker I think is essential. Not sure what the future lies for Duvall or Schebler. I need to see something this year to pencil them in as OF'ers of the future.
It's 1:09 PM and Gulfstream is racing so on to the horses it is Reds fans!!

It's 1:09 PM and Gulfstream is racing so on to the horses it is Reds fans!! Hope Disco is ready. They need inning eaters in the rotation. They need to cut down on the walks. A healthy Disco addresses that somewhat. He's still just one of five though. I don't think Finnegan can stay healthy either, especially if he's in the rotation. They probably need to look at him in the bullpen instead. Or see if they can get something for him. A bit worried about Bailey. What Bailey are we going to get? The one who struggles with his pitch count and can't hardly get out of the 5th inning? Or the one who can bring quality starts. Garrett still needs to prove that he's not a headcase when dealing with adversity. I wonder how long he was injured last year. He was pitching fine until they sent him down and he threw a fit over it. Then, when he came back, he was getting shelled. It would be nice to write off his struggles on his bad hip. But I think it's more that his struggles -continued- because of it instead. As far as the starting rotation goes, I just want to see five guys keeping their pitch counts in control. Walks were a killer last year. Both in driving the pitch counts up and in runners eventually scoring. I said it with Bailey... we need to see quality starts from the rotation overall. If we get that, we're competing. Period. On to the position players... Peraza needs to start showing some improvement. His pedigree is that he hits a lot better than Hamilton. But he's not doing it. But then again, with both of them, they cause chaos when they do get on base. Revere probably blocks Ervin from making the opening day roster. That might be a good thing though. Let Ervin play every day in the minors and keep his bat fresh. He's not going to do that up with the big team. Revere seems to bring nothing more to the team than Hamilton and Peraza already bring. Except, he's not as good on defense and he isn't as fast. He'll swipe some bases though. I agree. Winker is the only essential outfielder right now. Long term anyhow. Schebler has some room for improvement though. I'm surprised at how few at-bats he has at the major league level.
