Rookie Davis to D.L. Astin up. Gives us another arm in pen. By my acount. Cingrani could give us 1 inn. Iglesias maybe 1. Stephenson only fresh arm in pen. Guessing Astin is fairly fresh or I doubt he would have got the callup.
Price mentioned Romano or Reed could take Davis turn next time last night on post game. We need Garrett to go 6-7 tonight. With Arroyo going tomorrow that could be big bullpen night. Plus no off day till Monday. Overall all things considered I think Price has did solid job at managing the bull pen usage.

Astin should have never been sent down in the first place. They can use Rodriguez and Storen again tonight. Price has used his best two relievers to death. So let's get those lesser bullpen arms sore too. I am on the opposite end of Prices handling of the bullpen this early.

Also. Probably will be Reed unless they want to make another roster move. And they will be forced to make at least one when Mesoraco is ready.

Probably depends on if Reed is needed out of the pen between now and Sunday. Saw where Romano's turn with Louisville is Sunday so he would slot right in if Reed is needed. |

Eric, I think we should either drill Marte in the back tonight or at least drill Nova. I say Marte because IMO he has surpased McCutchen as there best player.
Either way they need to pay for hitting Davis.

Either way they need to pay for hitting Davis. I am not sure that was a purpose pitch. But I am always for somebody getting drilled. Let's just wait until the reds have this game under wraps. |

Who would they send out for Romano? I guess one of the bench players so the game has to be a tie like the all star game. Or Astin back down? Astin is probably gonna be on a constant shuttle between Louisville and Cincinnati all season. I would guess.

Eric, I think we are gonna see a 4 man bench all season. And I agree it sucks. But until the rotation proves it can go deep into games at least a couple times through the rotation. We are gonna see 8 relievers. I maybe way off base here but I think reason Stephenson hasn't been used but one time is because he is the mop up /long man.
Iglesias and Lorenzen has been used a bunch I agree. But I looked around the majors on other clubs there are several relievers being used as much and even more as our guys have been. Greg Holland already has 5 saves and he is coming off TJ.
I hope when Mez gets here he is hot as a firecracker so he can be traded in July. IMO and probably my opinion only I think outside of power Tucker is the better player. We saw one good half a season from Mez 3 years ago. Tucker is a very good catcher and has a idea of how to put together a good at bat. While Mez just trys to yank everything out of the park and is terrible behind the plate and that was before he got hurt. Just my opinion.
My fix to the 4 man bench thing is for MLB in the future to expand rosters to 26. Again about half the teams or close to it operate with a 4 man bench these days. Because starting pitching is babied so they need so many relievers on roster.
26 man rosters with a rule that all teams must carry 13 hitters and 13 pitchers at all times. Problem solved 8 man pen and 5 man bench

I looked it up besides us 9 other teams have a 4 man bench as of today. Again I agree with you Eric it is stupd but we are seeing more and more teams going to it.
When I was growing up in 70s teams had 7 man benchs. 90s teams dropped 6 2000s teams dropped to 5. Now we are in the beginning of 4 man benches. Within 3 years all teams will follow suit and every team will have 4 man benches. It all comes back to pitchers being coddeled from age 10 on up.
