Price, has already came out and said Peraza will start at 2b and Cozart at ss. I bet Herrera is in AAA. What should be done is Peraza at ss Herrera at 2b. Play Cozart 3 times a week. 1 start at 3b 1 at 2b and 1 at ss. That would increase trade partners. Right now he is just a ss. If he got some reps at 3b and 2b if a contending teams 3b or 2b went down Cozart could be a fit for the contending team. No doubt in my mind he could play both 2b and 3b very good. This won't happen because thats thinking out of the box something the Reds know nothing about. 90% sure now that Herrera will be in AAA baring injury. Bailey hopes to be back with team by June. That sucks because had he been healthy and pitching well at deadline he could have been traded to a large payroll club needing pitching. Now we are stuck with him till least next July that's if he can even pitch again. Just read it. I have to change my tune a touch. Price is the last obstruction. That's just dumb.

I have no problem with Phillips being traded, but I do have a problem with paying him to play for another team and not getting a damn thing in return for him. A blooming idiot for a manager and a bunch of dumbasses in the front office. The braves have been shittin' us on trades for years.

Flaredleg we have seen a lot of continuous dumb the last few years and I'm right there with you on it but this time it is IMO vastly different. This was a merciful for all last minute move that for one avoided the bad pub of dumping a vet who gave his all for the org at the end of his career. They did not want it to come off like that and tried to make it as beneficial to Phillips as possible with no compliance and a DFA is always a shitty end no matter how you slice it. But Phillips did it to himself. The worst case scenario in all this would have to let Phillips squander 2 years of playing time which our idiot manager would have made happen. And worse of his time was to be cut down I think he ends up a clubhouse cancer. He has been a bitch at times when he doesn't get his way. This move was exactly what it appears=a dump job plain and simple. We start the season with a clean slate. I'm tellin ya bro this is a best case scenario!

Rod, I certainly hope you are right about it being the best case scenario. I think the part that bothers me the most is the Reds paying all of his salary, meaning we are still handcuffed by it. Most GMs worth their salt would have gotten part of it paid by the braves. GMs (and players) should realize this is a business and hurt feelings shouldn't be a factor. With that said, I'll be right there with ya watching this season!

I don't think they will be near as painful as last season. If we were being hurt by a cash crunch for a needed player this deal I would be cringing as well. But we can absorb this easily in a season where spending isn't a top priority. It's just good business to move on without any fanfare, even at cost. The albatross of that situation is gone and that is a breath of fresh air on the day before pitchers and catchers report. We can really kick back, relax, and enjoy the competition of spring training with no underlying soap opera story lines. We are getting enough of that out of Washington and the supporting cast!

Florida, I'm with Rod on this one. BP was probably my favorite player; at least right there at the top. I hated to see him go, but knew it was a necessity. Everyone and their mother knew the Reds were desperate to move BP, and outside of the Braves, no one needed a 2nd baseman. The Braves did have younger options, but wanted to wait a little longer due to the timing of their rebuild. In other words, the only reason the Reds were able to make that deal was to pay for his contract. The alternative was to keep him here, and play him. That would have been a horrible organizational move. Basically, they saved about $1 million dollars, so in reality, this move did save them some money.

Price has taken a beating since taking over, and I think a lot of that comes from his 1st season, where he was just unbelievably horrible. Sadly for him, it takes a lot of good impressions to erase that 1st bad one. The point here is this. Price isn't near as bad as that 1st impression. Yes, he's taking some heat for the Cozart comment, but I personally believe that misplaced. Cozart being listed as the starter is a good move for Williams who is trying to deal him. At the very least, shows the Reds believe he's still a starter, and have no problem keeping him, thus not putting themselves in the position that they were in dealing Phillips. Secondly, Cozart needs to be the starter if he's here, and we all should pray he has a 1st half like last year, so we can deal him for something good.
Putting the Cozart issue a side, how can anyone bash Price regarding his bullpen use from 2nd half of last season, to what he just announced. For once, a manager is getting away from the BS Closer title, and using multiple guys. One can argue that Price's usage of the two young kids last season in the 2nd half, opened some eyes, and we saw the same thing being done by most of the teams in the post season. Now we have Price looking to do the same thing, but double down and add guys in that mix. Frankly, that's the sort of thing I've wanted to see a manager do for ages. Price is learning this job, along with his young team. Price is a very smart guy, and I think he's growing at in his job. Don't get me wrong. There has been plenty of ugliness with some of his decisions, but I'm starting to see enough good impressions to erase the ugly 1st one.

There has been plenty of ugliness with some of his decisions, but I'm starting to see enough good impressions to erase the ugly 1st one. Price's meltdown last season was the 2nd best highlight for me other than the 2nd half spark we saw! As for Cozart I would just assume keep him. I think we get a lot out of him as PH'er and backup. With his age and injury history I doubt a hot 1st half translates to an impact trade. Just my opinion. And I think Zach would be good with that. I've always viewed his situation differently than Phillips'. I truly think this is one idea that would be best for both team and player. I liked that Price has had his own ideas about the bullpen. The rigidity of the way it's constructed around the league is ridiculous. Getting 90-100 innings out of former starters converted to pen arms is brilliant. No closer is brilliant. Trying to apply the multiple inning theory to everybody else in the pen though is what I disagree with and it was nearly always that 2nd inning from guys that blew up bigtime. There is some original and creative thinking going on here and it is exciting. But it doesn't apply universally to every arm down there. You could be right about Price learning on the job. I don't think he could've have managed many more wins in that 1st half last year. I'm on the fence about him overall. With more talent at his disposal this season we will know a lot about him as a manager by the end of it. Going into it I am rooting for him because he has paid his dues.
