Last week after Dalton went out I saw a coaching staff go belly up and play not to get embarrassed and the did anyway. They stopped playing. They stopped trying to win every drive and instead tried not to lose.
So what.....
We all had a week to soak it in and move on. Hell the fans I hang with we were open armed accepting of a guy with the background of McCarron coming into a still talented team and ready to amp it up with our enthusiasm and back our QB making his first start wholeheartedly. I was fired up to see the continuity today.
We got the win. But that's all we got. After the first quarter I realized nothing had changed between weeks. Credit Paul Guenther and his squad today. They came to win and were solely responsible for today's win. But the other side of the ball with Hue Jackson's piss poor gameplan and with Marvin Lewis' approval apparently, we played kid gloves with a QB that didn't need it and for a team that should be getting a tuneup for what will be the likely game for #2 seeding and a bye week against Denver next week, we we're content to play not to lose again. 21 of the 24 points were off turnovers and short field. The offense on it's own accord scored 3 points.
They came out looking collectively dull. And designed plays as if we had a high school QB back there, little check downs and 2 yard sideline pass plays.
Which brings up the other giant issue, that started even before the Dalton injury. This offensive line sucks. Against the 2nd worst rush defense in the league we managed 64 yards. Which needless to say with a conservative offensive gameplan led to a kitchen sink approach for the opposing D on the multitude of 3rd and longs we had today and McCarron had no chance. An offensive line that can't block for either facet of it's game is worthless.
Which brings me to my last point. Good coaches are here to assert themselves into a crisis situation, not be the face of it's problems. This team played scared, played listless, played ineptly, and more importantly played like they didn't have big things on the horizon. And guess what? They don't. They revealed their character today. Adversity has reared it's ugly head. Good teams fight through it. We fold up the tents. It started last week and continued this week. They have already waived the white flag of defeat.....
I brought all this up last week. Apparently it is a polarizing issue because arguing about it last week led to the whole god damn forum being shut down.
No wonder they like the Lewis regime so much!!LOL!!

Some might take this wrong because it was dominantly a blowout game vs an inferior opponent. But they, I, you know big things are right around the corner. With a rookie QB this was the perfect opportunity to let him rip it and learn and get some snaps in. They played so conservatively that didn't happen. Winning the game was the obvious goal. But that wasn't the big picture today. This kid needed as much fire baptizing as possible today. Next week he will be forced to go go go. Without the benefit of faith by his coaches or snaps under his belt. The "Tuneup" fight never happened. I will be shocked if we don't get our ass kicked next week. I am rooting for this kid with all my god damn heart and soul though. This staff ain't got his back. The rest of Cincinnati does though..

Figured I'd add to this post. Steeler week. It's time to get over the hump. Would erase this decade of misery since 2005. I had that thought earlier in the year. I get not wanting to turn the ball over but they've got to be more aggressive. Leave the Steelers out there all day and they'll beat you. That 2nd half yesterday raised an eyebrow. Nice avatar BTW! That default was fucked up wasn't it?!

We'll find out about Dalton today. There's no way he's ready by Saturday if the cast comes off. Pressure from no playoff win, pressure from throwing the ball plus being rusty. It's a recipe for disaster. It also shows the desperation by Marvin and it's not even game time yet. The jury is still out. Win this game and maybe Dalton is ready in two weeks. We'll see.

We got next to zero chance in this game. If the def plays good the Off will shit the bed or vice versa. We have saw this movie 5 times and we know how it ends. After halftime coaches make adjustments. Bengals shit the bed in 2nd half.eVERY SINGLE PLAYOFFS GAME. We have score 6 fucking points in 5 playoff games in the 2nd half. So we best be ahead by 35 at halftime. Lewis is incapable of making adjustments or so it seems. I FIGURED 2 WEEKS AGO we would be playing fucking Pitt. 6th playoff loss coming and they will blame that on the QB being injured. When i say blame i mean that Marvin's worthless ass job will be safe. Giants pretty much running there coach out of town despite 2 super bowl wins. Dip shit Marvin can't win one damn playoff game and has a lifetime contract. Sorry for doom gloom rant before the game is played but I have about had it with Cincinnati teams. Zero playoff series wins for Reds since 95. Bengals 1990= bullshit. I hope come sat night about 1130 that I have to eat every word of the post and we beat the holly hell out of shitsberg.

This team has the talent to win and go deep in playoffs. But they have had the talent in the past as well and we can't even beat Hou with a backup QB. Or the Chargers who I think is one the the 5 worst teams ever to win a playoff game. It is coaching plain and simple. Marvin has done outstanding in the drafts. I would like to see him in the front office running things as GM but that will never happen as long as the Browns are the owners.

Absolutely Brian, coaching is the issue. We could go on and on about his issues. Which we all know about that. It's a shame to waste this talent with a coach that doesn't have "it". They need a new voice. Say they win this game then lose against the Pats. Then what. Is it acceptable. Is it a good season. For me it's not. It's Super Bowl or bust. You lose he should be fired. Period. We know that's not gonna happen though. The dilemma of being a Bengals fan. Hell a Cincy fan. Oh well. I'll keep rooting till they cart me away

And have since there were no coaching changes made last spring. I didn't watch hardly any games except on replay the first half of the season. I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Even after the loss to Zona I was convinced we were the best team in the AFC and once the ground game got going we would be a force. The injury isn't that devastating IMO. We still are surrounded by talent and this kid has a better arm than Dalton. It comes down to these pussy ass coaches. The Bengals are still playing football. Other teams with real playoff aspirations aren't playing. They are involved in a war. Win at all costs. It's not about adjusting the gameplan to the situation. You fucking plug in and go. Were not going anywhere with Lewis as head coach. He instills zero confidence in his players and us fans. You know I'm into racing. Saturday is just the act of making the results "Official"!HAHA!!

Red and Linz great posts and we are all on the same page. It is such an epic tragedy this Curse of the Riverfront we need a classical theme heading into Saturday night. "Once more into the breach dear friends, once more"-Shakespeare(Henry V) I fight it sometimes Linz but I'll be carted away too some day!!

I heard the Titans and Lions asked for permission to interview Duke Tobin for GM positions. If Hue, Marvin or Paulie G left. I'd be ok with that. Not Duke. IMO he's the most underrated Bengal there is. His scouting and picks are tops in the NFL. I'd do anything to keep him. Make him GM. Losing Zim was a huge loss. Losing Duke could impact this team forever. Please keep Duke.

Tobin to GM get new HC and OC preferably someone with a reputation as smart, young, hungry, and on the way up and we might have a chance at some some "real" damage in this thang.
