Here is the state of the team. We've scored 3 runs or less in 8 of the last 13 games(62%) We've gotten 4 quality starts in the last 13(31%) and have gotten 5 innings or less in 8 of the other 9 including 6 of the 13 games the starter going 4 innings or less(46%). You could have said the season was effectively over at the end of April. But the run we went on to get to 9 games under .500 was inspiring. It really is over now and at the very moment I am not seeing anything to make me think 2019 will be any different and none of the theories I've heard for a plan genuinely inspire with belief. With this particular front office any comings and goings will only be mirages and that they are merely running in place. Going nowhere while in motion. A true illusion. Arizona

Yeah, I don't see it either. Starting pitching is such a headache, without any indicator that stability is coming.
I was just thinking though... once the big names are signed in the offseason, the trade market could get very interesting. Those teams will probably have to deal off some talent to make room for their premium acquisitions. But then again, the Nationals will probably be in the middle of everything after Harper signs elsewhere.
With our headcases, maybe the best investment would be to add a psychologist to the coaching/training staff. You laugh, I'm sure... but sadly I'm serious.

We won't spend so we will have to deal from strength and we don't have a strength. You see how volatile the offense is. Take some of the outfield out and they suck. So if you are trading from what you perceive to be a strength to address a weakness all you get is mediocrity in all 4 phases (Offense-Starter-Bullpen-Defense). This IMO is why the team hasn't won in 6 seasons. They can't do it all at the same time.
