By the looks of his minors numbers, the kid developed an out pitch and has been fucking nasty since. Hope he can keep it up in the big show!

What I read about him was that they moved him exclusively to the bullpen last year sometime, and he clicked with it big time. 94-98 on his fastball. Think the write-up is that he has two other pretty good pitches as well.

Well that was some shortlived excitement! Not saying he won't be something special but this is how it seems to be so far with the Reds. Anything you get excited immediately goes in the shitter.

That was kind of a damned if you do/damned if you don't situation... Righty gives the walk to the lefty who is not swinging the bat all that well... to get to the rookie righty who has been hitting OK... 3-run bomb. Honestly, might as well let him face the lefty. The game was lost anyhow. The bats are dead. Wasted a fine effort by Bailey... I think they should have sent him out for another inning anyhow. He was at 93 pitches... so, maybe not. But it was 1-1 when he came out, and Hughes is taking the loss. Another QS blown by an anemic offense.

I think Rainey is going to be a fine bullpen piece, but I blame Price on using him there. When Rainey is on, the kid is flat out nasty, but he does struggle a little bit with his control from time to time. So, take a kid who has less than 15IP above AA, and put him in a spot in a tight 2-1 game for his MLB debut, you know had to know nerves would be high and for someone who can struggle with control, it leads to a disaster inning. He needed a couple of lower impact situations under his belt before throwing him into the fire like that.
In other good news, Nick Senzel has been moved back to 3B last night in Louisville. I'm presuming it's to get some reps before a potential call up this weekend to be the long term solution with Suarez out.

I mean, he's on 0-for-12/16 now, isn't he? He started off great, but I've seen nothing but 0-for's in your minor league reports for several days now. A bit concerned that he might have hit a road block that he's going to have to work his way around first. I pretty much agree about Rainey. The kid's stuff was live and his composure wasn't too bad... he bounced back after the HR and fanned the next batter in short order. I just think either Price shouldn't have used him at all in that situation... or he should have been hands off and not mess with the kid's head. He was nervous enough. Just let him pitch until you decide to pull him out.

Intelligent fans know that approach is bullshit. The Cubs for example pieced together a rotation then started the wave of prospect callups and acquisitions. That's the right way to do it not cold calling out of desperation.
