I finally got my enema. They jammed that thing right up my ass and out popped Paul Guenther, Paul Alexander, James Urban and Kevin Coyle. And man oh man, does it feel good...
I'm not saying that all the new coaches will have more success than those that have been let go, but this team needed change just to demonstrate that they're capable of changing and to demonstrate that they're trying to get better. Besides, if you stay the same and don't change, the results will almost certainly stay the same. But the most significant change may be that of Mike Brown. If Brown has turned over a new leaf by allowing the coaching staff to make personnel decisions instead of himself, that would be a major change and one that has the potential to completely turn the organization around. It may be a bit of a long shot, but if this move proves to be successful, Marvin Lewis will deserve a ton of credit for making this happen. That's right. We may be praising Lewis in a year or two for seeing these changes through.
For the most part, I like the decisions that have been made concerning the coaching staff. I think the coaching staff has let some questionable coaches go and they've added some that 'appear' to have potential. The biggest risk lies with the hiring of Teryl Austin as the teams defensive coordinator. Austin has a mediocre resume to date, but that may be a result of only having mediocre players to work with. What gives this hiring some credibility is Jon Gruden's attempt to add Austin to his Raiders coaching staff. Gruden wouldn't try to bring Austin in unless he was sure he would be successful. We shall see.

Austin wasn't my choice but like you said 77. Apparently we got Grudens first choice. And he's not already on the staff. We will see. I am glad Alexander is gone. Theres been talk of bringing McNally back. That could be a good thing. He had one of the best OLs in the league if not thee best when he was OL coach. I would be good with the idea of them giving it a shot. My only hesitation is his age but it could prove not to be a factor. Anything is better than what we had. Now the next big test to see whos calling the shots will be the draft.

The bengals rolled the dice on several mid to late round offensive linemen in the past because Alexander thought he could turn them into good players. He didn't. Alexander was overrated. It looks like Lewis has his sights set on Utah o-line coach Jim Harding. Lewis wouldn't interview a coach from Utah if the coach didn't have an impressive resume. Adding coaches from the college ranks can really help a team out come draft time. Jimmy Johnson and Pete Carroll are two such examples. College coaches usually have a better understanding of how good a college player is because of their involvement with recruiting them out of high school or maybe they coached against them. They also have inside info concerning late round gems; i.e. Leon Lett.

It certainly looks like MB is giving Lewis free reign to hire his coaching staff. Our offensive line hasn't been good for 9 or 10 years.

The Bengals have hired a slew of new coaches. Most of them seem to be well respected throughout the league. But to be truthful, I'm just thankful that 'change' isn't considered to be a bad thing within the organization anymore.

After the dreadful obvious feeling we all had this is the best we could hope for. We do have some talent. I will not go into the season optimistic no matter what happens between now and then. But I will be watching diligently hoping for a spark to light me up!

Personally, I think he'll continue to play washed up vets over younger players, but who knows, maybe some of his assistants will 'guide' him in the right direction.
