Two year extension for Marvin? That surprises me. And it doesn’t.

Two year extension for Marvin? That surprises me. And it doesn’t. I'm not surprised. This scenario is typical Mike Brown. But what can we Bengal fans expect from the most dysfunctional owner in all of sports? Brown is afraid of hiring a REAL COACH that will demand major changes so he uses Lewis as his security blanket. Nothing more, nothing less. Our only hope is that Lewis has garnered enough power to make meat-and-potatoes changes AND that he's actually a better coach than we're aware of AND that the only thing that kept him from achieving a lot of success was Mike Brown. Sounds like a lot of 'ands' to me, but that's all we have.

We'll probably never know what was actually said behind those closed doors, but I have a pretty good hunch. Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis truly believe that keeping everything hush-hush is the best path to take. They're wrong. After all the drama and nuttiness that we fans have been put through for the last 27 years, some transparency is needed. And I'm not talking about divulging information that could hurt the team such as revealing details about a new defensive scheme or what player they're targeting in the draft. Just some good old fashioned candidness would do the trick. For example, if Brown and Lewis were to have a news conference and inform the fans of some of the changes that have been made and why they were made, it would do them and the fans a lot of good and go a long way in mending old wounds. Brown should inform the fans of mistakes he's made as owner/GM and how he looks forward to turning over a new leaf. And Lewis should do the same. Once again, the positive PR this would generate would be immense. All the fans need is some honesty, transparency, contriteness and accountability. Is that asking too much?

I believe like others the big problem is MB over riding player decisions. Just finished an article that ML wanted Rueben Foster MB wanted Ross. We see who won that. Which is probably why ML hasn't played him much. But I think in this case ML is biting off his nose to spite his face. Rookies make mistakes. You don't jerk them out because they ran a bad route. Hell vets do that. Obviously the big problem here with this team has been a power struggle. Lets hope it gets resolved.

Until he's out of the picture, one way or another, this team will remain behind the eight ball when it comes to making a legitimate Super Bowl run. The only positive we fans can hope for is that Marvin Lewis is a much better coach than we realize and he's allowed to make all personnel decisions without any interference from Brown. I know the chance of this coming to fruition is slim-to-none, but it's all we have. A REAL owner would've fired Marvin Lewis, hired Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and allowed McDaniels to run the ship in coordination with a REAL general manager. This isn't rocket science. The entire NFL world knows this is the path Mike Brown should have chosen. But like I posted earlier, Marvin Lewis is Mike Brown's security blanket. Brown is afraid of the REAL world as it pertains to football. He knows Lewis will keep all of his nutty and greedy ways hidden, unlike a Josh McDaniels who would demand major changes.

That is what I had hoped for. Marvin would have been made GM and he would hire Josh McDaniels. I knew it was just wishful thinking though. I think Marvin is probably a better coach than we give him credit for. His hands have been tied working for Brown. Still players need a different voice than Marvin's.

Isn't the lease up in next few years for Paul Brown Stadium? I suspect Brown will sell team when its up and it will get moved to L.A. or Oakland or some other city. If so my waning NFL aka Bengals fandom will be done. I won't follow any other team.

After the Ravens game I did not like the smile on ML"s face. I thought to myself he and MB had a deal. If he won he would get a renewal of his contract. For the first time I was wishing that the Bengals would lose to get a higher draft pick and a new coach. Remember that the Ravens are the "old Browns". New's articles raised my hopes that ML was gone. Like 77 I worried about who would replace him and the thought that picking one of the current coaches on the Bengals worried me.
Now we know it is ML again. Let's hope that he has full control as mentioned in many posts.
The priority for me is we get a Free Agent OL so that we have more of a choice for our first pick in the draft. Boling has been playing very well at left tackle and it surprised me the last two games. It looks like the "same-ol, same-ol". We have nothing until the draft.

You hit on a few topics I was meaning to bring up. Marvin Lewis' Cheshire Cat grin is extremely annoying as it has been for the last several years. I thought Bill Lazor did a much better job at explaining the teams future during their news conference. Lazor was insightful and serious. Lewis on the other hand seemed to be grinning the whole time as if he pulled the wool over everyones eyes yet again. Lewis came across as being untrustworthy and disingenuous. He also seemed to be gloating as if he showed up everyone that wanted him gone, particularly the fans. The Bengals played much better, particularly on offense, once Boling was moved to LT. Because of this, the Bengals have to draft a LT within the first two rounds OR sign LT Nate Solder from Patriots even if they have to overpay. By doing so, the Bengals can focus on drafting a rare talent like S Derwin James or LB Roquain Smith. If those two guys are off the board, they could draft a QB, trade down (Buffalo has two first round picks), or draft the best player in this draft in OG Quentin Nelson. The one player I really want the Bengals to draft is C Frank Ragnow. He's a pure beast. Ragnow played at Arkansas and went up against great players. In over forty starts, Ragnow never gave up a sack. Just imagine how much better the offense would run with this guy in the middle. Not only would the center position greatly improve (Dalton would finally be able to move up in the pocket), but so would both guard positions. I just hope these knuckleheads don't plan on bringing back Bodine as the starter. His play has hurt the offense since his first day on the job.

If so my waning NFL aka Bengals fandom will be done. I won't follow any other team. Brown won't sell the team. He promised his dad that he will hold onto it as long as he's alive. Moving the team is possible, but unlikely. At 82 years of age, the last thing Brown wants to do is move the team and especially his family. Brown did rip off the City of Cincinnati and it's taxpayers by getting them to foot the bill on building him a new stadium and through other contractual agreements. I don't see the city putting up nearly as much revenue as they did before, so trouble may lie ahead.

He is a Guard but one of the best to come along in years. He would definitely open up the running game for Mixon. I usually baulk drafting a Guard that high but he is worth the pick.

Lost, if the Bills want to draft one of the top QB's, there's a chance they would trade both of their first round draft picks to the Bengals in order to move up and and grab one. There's also a chance that Quentin Nelson will still be on the board late in round one just as David DeCastro and Kevin Zeitler were several drafts ago. If this scenario were to happen, the Bengals could come away with OG Quentin Nelson and OT Kolton Miller. We all saw how much better the Bengals played on both sides of the ball when Clint Boling was moved to LT, so imagine how much better the team would play with Miller at LT, Boling back to LG and Nelson installed at RG or possibly RT. This team has to figure out a way to add as many tough, mean and talented big men as possible. It's the only way they're going to win the division. Adding C Frank Ragnow or C Billy Price is crucial to having a great draft. Ragnow is my choice as of now. We'll have to wait and see how well they play down in Mobile and how well they test at the combine. The Bengals literally have a shot at forming one of the best offensive lines in the league in one draft. Adding linebackers and other defenders could start as early as round three. I just hope these knuckleheads understand this.
