Nice to see the Steelers get knocked off at home. If New England wins out, they'll have home field advantage throughout the playoffs which will make things more difficult for the Steelers concerning their bid to win yet another Super Bowl. And no, I'm not a big fan of the Pats, but I am a fan of anyone that knocks off the Steelers. They more than deserve any and all negativity that can be heaped upon them. They got it coming.
However, being the honest broker that I am, regardless of the team, I find it important to point out that the rule concerning 'following through with the catch' and/or 'maintaining control of the ball throughout the catch' (or something like that) needs to be abolished ASAP. To put it bluntly, Steelers TE Jesse James' TD should have stood. James catches and controls the ball; turns and lunges towards the end zone. The ball crosses the front of the end zone with James still in control of the ball. TD! Right? Wrong... After hitting the ground, the ball comes out and touches the ground, BUT THIS IS AFTER THE BALL ALREADY CROSSED THE GOAL LINE WITH JAMES MAINTAINING CONTROL! This rule sucks and should be done away with immediately.
How many times, on any given Sunday, do we fans watch RBs stretch the ball over the goal line, only to see the RB lose control of it before he's actually tackled/stopped yet the TD remains because the ball crossed the goal line before the ball is lost. Isn't that, in essence, the same thing that happened to James? Also, what about the rule that states 'the ground cannot cause a fumble'? James had control of the ball until he hit the ground. Another words, there seems to be a double-standard when it comes to WRs and RBs as it relates to 'what is' and 'what isn't' control and a TD. What a stupid rule.
