Did you guys expect anything different? Besides having the refs in their back pocket game after game, year after year, the Steelers also own the commissioner. To get right to the point, JuJu Smith-Shuster should've been ejected for the remainder of last nights game in addition to receiving a 3-4 game suspension for his blind-side hit on Vontaze Burfict AND for taunting Burfict as he stood over him. But the commissioner only gave Smith-Shuster a one game suspension just as he did George Iloka even though Iloka's hit on Antonio Brown (which Brown jumped right up from) was of a much lesser variety AND there was no taunting involved!
It was great that both announcers rightfully criticized Smith-Shuster for his blatantly illegal hit and the refs for making bogus calls against Bengal defenders which enabled Pittsburgh to get the win, but when does it stop? When will the league treat the Steelers as they do almost every other team in the league? When will the refs start calling games objectively instead of making bogus calls that favor the Steelers? If this game would've been officiated objectively, the Bengals would've won. Not that I really care, because I don't. Why? Because the Bengals aren't going to make the playoffs anyway and even if they did, they'd lose in round one. But it is satisfying to know that Steeler fans witnessed (whether they admit it or not) what we Bengals fans have been aware of for some time now: The Steelers receive preferential treatment both on and off the field from game officials and the commissioner/league.
Last nights loss wasn't solely due to bad officiating and dirty play. Marvin Lewis and company went into their all too familiar 'lets try not to lose mode' after building up a 17-0 lead. And was that a semi-prevent defense the Bengals D employed early in the third quarter? Please tell me I was seeing things. Here's an idea: Why not stick with what's working? Who knows, it just might work! And don't get me started on that 'love tap' that Jordan Evans gave Antonio Brown on the sideline that enabled Brown to waltz into the end zone.
