The season is over because of incompetence at the top. Time to think about next year, and the next year, and the next year, and... I'll make it short.
Round 1: Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame. I don't always agree with popular pre-draft player rankings, but this one is right on the money. McGlinchey is the best tackle prospect in this class and a very good one at that. The Bengals would be fools to pass on him.
Round 1b: The Bengals really need to become pro-active when drafting. Therefore, I have them trading AJ McCarron and their third round compensatory pick to the Browns for this selection. Quentin Nelson, OG, Notre Dame. You can't pass up talent like this. One of the best guard prospects since DeCastro and Zeitler. A road grader. Nelson may be better than both. He has multiple pro-bowler written all over him. Hall of Fame? Shhhhh.....
Round 2: Trey Adams, OT, Washington. Adams blew out his ACL earlier this fall, so the Bengals have a shot at drafting him in round two. Drafting high in each round helps in making this scenario possible. Welcome aboard!
Round 3a: Frank Ragnow, C, Arkansas. Wow! This guy pancakes opponents on a regular basis. AFC North material for sure. The only problem I saw was his feet. They're slower than one would like, but he gets the job done.
I think this mock demonstrates just how bad the Bengals o-line is playing. First four picks, all o-linemen.

It's just sad when it gets to this point.

Maybe the new head coach will have some pull and get creative and active like this. I’m all for it but we need a QB in the mix too.

Maybe the new head coach will have some pull and get creative and active like this. I’m all for it but we need a QB in the mix too. You got it plus I'm adding different players in each round to make things a bit more interesting. The draft I posted above would be a dream come true for the Bengals. I admit it's very optimistic, but it, or a similar draft is possible. Round 1: Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming. There are a lot of high quality QB's coming out this year and since the Bengals are in the midst of a major overhaul, now is the time to strike. Josh Allen not only possesses every attribute that a team seeks in it's franchise QB, he's also extremely athletic. When flushed from the pocket, Allen is a big time threat with his feet, but more importantly, his arm. He's raw, but with the right coaching and players around him, he could become something very special. Round 2a: Jamarco Jones, OT, Ohio State. There are several other players I would like to see the Bengals draft in this round instead, but the tackle position on this team is so bad, the Bengals don't really have a choice. Jones may not be as dominating as Trey Adams, but he's much better than any OT currently on the roster. Round 2b: The Bengals finally trade AJ McCarron to the Browns for this selection. In my opinion, the Bengals MUST trade up early in the draft to garner a player that can come in and immediately contribute on the o-line. Will Hernandez, G, UTEP. Hernandez is one hell of a blocker. Give this guy a year and Kevin Zeitler will be a long forgotten memory. Round 3a: Isaiah Wynn, G/OT/C, Georgia. Just the type of player the Bengals o-line needs. A talented and nasty big guy that can play multiple positions. Round 3b: Mike Gesicki, TE, Penn State. Tyler Eifert can't be counted on and he becomes a free agent after this season. Gesicki is tall standing at six foot six and weighs over two-hundred and fifty pounds. He's a great receiver AND blocker. OR...Round 1: Cortland Sutton, WR, SMU. The Bengals made a boneheaded mistake by drafting the small and injury prone John Ross over TE OJ Howard. The Bengals can begin to rectify this mistake with the drafting of Sutton. Sutton has the talent and size needed to lead a WR corp and with AJ Green nearing 30 years of age, it's smart to be pro-active. Round 2a: Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State. Big, tall, strong armed QB that's tough to bring down. Can make all the the throws. I love his overhand delivery. Round 2b: The Bengals finally trade AJ McCarron to the Browns for this selection. In my opinion, the Bengals MUST trade up early in the draft to garner a player that can come in and immediately contribute on the o-line. Billy Price, C, Ohio State. Price is a monster in the middle. He regularly throws defenders around like rag dolls. Goodbye Russell Bodine! Round 3a: Mitch Hyatt, OT, Clemson. Scouts aren't as high on Hyatt as they have been in the past, but I still like what I see. Right tackle? Round 3b: Martez Ivey, OT, Florida. The Bengals have got to come out of this draft with at least two OT's. Ivey is the best on the board at this juncture. Round 4: Caleb Wilson, TE, UCLA. Shhhhh! There's a good chance that Caleb Wilson will be overlooked come draft day due to his season ending injury. The Bengals may have just uncovered another fourth round gem. Shhhhh! The one player the Bengals should definitely avoid is the much overrated Orlando Brown. Brown is big and slow. Plays 'lazy' at times preferring to watch the action instead of getting involved. Doesn't always play to the whistle. Speed rushers consistently beat him around the edge. I have no idea what some scouts see in him. I think there's a good chance he'll fall into the lower rounds or go undrafted.

It's just sad when it gets to this point. Yes it is. Two years ago, this team was on the verge of making a serious Super Bowl run, but instead of signing C Alex Mack (Cleveland free agent) and another quality free agent, Mike Brown did nothing. And to make matters worse, Brown allowed Andrew Whitworth and Kevin Zeitler to walk even though the he had a ton of cap space available. The Steelers had far less cap space available when they made the smart decision of inking David DeCastro to an extension.
