Well the season mercifully comes to an end. From the moment you know a losing season is in hand it can become unbearable but even in losing seasons there are many highlights and fun games. When it ends like this there are always mixed emotions. There is something about baseball that speaks to your childhood. The summertime, the ebb and flow of the game, the daily commitment. There is nothing like the bond of a baseball fan and the game. Even in a losing season it is bittersweet when it ends. The series was lost but we at least went out on a winning note. I watched most of the game yesterday. There were a lot of positives on this team which I will cover later on. But I will leave you with 2 tidbits. The offense scored 753 runs which is the 2nd most in the last decade only to 2010's 790 but more than 3rd place finisher 2011's 735. And the starting pitching down the stretch over the last 13 series and although innings challenged did record a sub 4.00 ERA. To go along with the #6 defense in both leagues these are positive building blocks for the future. And we deserve more. Our group has been through many changes. I hope that a winning season gets us more talkative again. I know we all feel the enthusiasm deep down, we just need to feel the rush of a winner to shake out the cobwebs! Love you all!

I missed most of this season working nights, thankfully. Don't think it's a secret to say that the reds seemed to tank from the get go. I enjoyed watching some of the games after the AS break when they brought up the real potential SP'ers, Castillo especially was fun. Least amt. of baseball I've ever watched in a summer methinks, by situation and the poor outlook. I've missed you folks and the banter, hopefully as Rod said, next yr. things will get better and enthusiasm won't wane. Never thought mine would, but here we are. See you folks in spring!

Yeah VB since I joined in 2004 we have gone through being non contenders to winners to non contenders to rebuild and we never got any playoff wins when it was good. That's tough. Add a few board moves, internet burnout, and operating off phones and keeping a place like this going is going to need a contender. Which is why I want to get together in person with as many people in our group as I can.

Good to hear from you, VB! Hopefully next year we'll have something to be excited about.
Thanks for putting in all the work and doing the stats and trends another year, Rod! Any chance of you having a stats and trends for the entire season as a whole?

Thanks man!
And thanks for posting all the stats and trends threads for every series this year. I know you enjoy it, but it's a lot of time and effort too I'm sure. I appreciate it, Rod.

BTW if you wanted to do series splits you'll have to copy and paste them into the box for splits then enter a 1 into the designated box and the splits will pop up on the pages above. For instance if you wanted to know the series stats against the Cards in the 2nd half you could do that. On the MLB site you can't. I won't pay for other sites for stats. Into it but not that into it. As for the series stats, if you only look at wins and losses the reality can get lost. We had a top 10 offense, bullpen, and defense for the first 2 months of the year. If we had any starting pitching the record would have been far better on the season. It just goes to show how devastating having a statistical Achille's heel can be. Many thought we just had another shitty year. But we were so close to being a competitive team.
