You know how you lose a series vs the Pirates? You go 1-16 RISP the last 2 games and don't hit a HR all weekend. Twilight Zone shit! Well even while only averaging 5.4 innings per start the starters have been consistent in 15 games. 3.22 ERA/1.26 WHIP. If you only take the 5 starters that are in our rotation now(Castillo, Bailey, Romano, Mahle, Stephenson) and subtract the disastrous Wojo start(3.2 IP-7 ER), the remainder of the 14 starts they have a 2.56 ERA. The bullpen has just been a train wreck. 7.00 ERA over 7 series. This reminded of something I did the other day. I said what if the Reds had a 4.50 ERA and the rest of the team was intact. They were on pace to score 780 but allow 773. So basically even with the humble idea of "mediocre" pitching we are about a .500 team or 1 game over via the Pythag. In these last 15 games we have scored an average of 4.87 per game and allowed 4.70. This is a vision of what the team is without more work and improvement. I'd push a little to be better than a .500 team next year but this is progress however slight. Anyway 3 rookie starters combined for a sub 2.00 ERA this weekend. Castillo is on an innings and pitch limit so he will make his last start this week. I'd piggy back Reed-Garrett in the 5th spot the rest of the way. See how that works. Give em 100 pitches each for the game and see what happens.

This should be an interesting time for a fan of a perennial loser, with call ups and young, hungry players getting a chance to showcase......but not the Reds! Our call ups have already been here a good portion of this season and it appears that Senzel has Nick Esasky disease! I do understand, that the FO doesn't have much to choose from, but that's their fault with all the piss poor trades and half ass fire sale!
Maybe Price will manage this team the rest of the way (what's left of it) like he's managing for the future and not trying to save his job, since he got his extension.
Sorry to muddy up your Stats and Trends thread with no real insight Rod. Your thread is a must read!

Any and all input is welcome! The Reds have been fun of late. I always love September ball no matter how the season plays out. I almost started a gamethread tonight but wanted to throw some horseshoes before dark. Been a few weeks.
