You have to give it up to the kid Montero who pitched last night. He almost had a complete game shutout before being pulled an out into the 9th. We also could have won it with a double or HR so our pitching kept it in us. But the offense bashed the longball, took their walks, and were clutch as nails. With 28 games to go we are still on pace to score 777 runs. After last year's 717 I was hoping for 750. They are plenty competent enough to win. Plus we have 6 players in the lineup with an .800+ OPS or better. That's solid. Don't look now but we are getting starting pitching. And while it's too early to tell I am believing Brad's theory just how much the starters have affected the bullpen. They did their part well this series, albeit vs a depleted Mets team. But the starters have shown real progress in the last 4 series. They have 6 of 12 quality starts(50%) which is way up compared to the season stats of 43 for 134(32%). And while there have been short outings, in these last 12 starts only 1 time has the starter allowed more than 3 runs. Castillo and Romano have been consistent of late. And so has Stephenson(5 ER in last 16.2=2.70 ERA). With Mahle up I look forward to watching the ballgames nearly every night just to see how they do. Most of us know we sort this out we are an instant contender in 2018. Fingers crossed.
