I really like the potential of the Bengals draft this year, but it does come with risks. Basically, a few selections come with injury concerns. It would've been nice to draft one of the top OT's and/or C's earlier on, but there was better players available (Joe Mixon) and this draft was weak at those positions anyway.
First round WR John Ross is one such risk. Ross is injury prone, having suffered two or three fairly significant injuries while playing for the Huskies. If Ross is able to stay healthy, his speed and skills will be a nice addition to the offense. But staying healthy in the AFC North is tough, especially when you're small in stature and as I just mentioned, injury prone.
Personally, I would've drafted TE OJ Howard out of Alabama in round one. Eifert, Kroft and Uzomah are constantly battling injuries and Eifert is a free agent after this year. For these reasons, Howard just made more sense to me than Ross did. Also, this draft was loaded with speedy WR's, so the Bengals could've added two of them later on as they did with the selection of Josh Malone in round four.
DE/OLB Carl Lawson is another injury prone player, but I have no problem with his selection. Unlike Ross, Lawson was drafted in round four and he's physically big enough and strong enough to weather tough play in the AFC North. Good pick and if the injury bug doesn't bite him. The selection of Lawson in round four could become a major steal.
