Clinz and I talked about this a few weeks ago. Senzel is on the fast track so what do you do with Suarez? I see it two ways. Suarez a great defensive 3B so don't move him and with Senzel's youth going to 2B he could handle it. But Suarez has middle infield experience at SS and could transition better to the position.
But this got me to wondering, what is Suarez worth? It's often easy to overlook what he does. His work ethic has been impeccable. Of the 7 third basemen to have over 1,000 innings Suarez has the 2nd highest FPCT and second fewest errors. Only to Arenado in both. .985 FPCT vs .980 and 5 errors to 6 errors. 4 of those top 7 have double digit errors and .960 or lower FPCT's.
Suarez is 2nd on the team in walks with 70 to Votto's 101. Which makes him tied for 7th in all of baseball.
Plus he's on pace to hit 25-30 HR's. OBP sits at .378.
Guy is pretty good.

I Think Suarez could handle ss. He was horrible there before but he is older now and really improved at 3b so I think he would be ok at SS and maybe even in time close to Cozart good. I see Peraza as more of a super Utl guy. He don't have the arm to play SS full time IMO. He should be at very least in a platoon at 2b with Scooter. I would get Senzel up in Sept get his feet wet and he would be my opening day 3B. Senzel and Winker are the real deals IMO. They need to get them in the lineup to pair with Votto while Votto is still putting up huge numbers. A lineup of Winker RF Senzel 3b Votto 1b Suarez SS Duvall lf Scooter 2b/Peraza Barnhart c BiLLY cf Don't look bad but they must have a healthy Homer and Disco from game 1-162 to go with Castillo and Sign a mid tier guy for rotation and IMO we contend Schebler and Ervin and Peraza would make for a very good bench.
Just saw Suarez played a couple innings yesterday at SS so maybe that's a sign of things to come. Still it is not a easy desicion to move Suarez off 3b he has been outstanding there.

Great topic Rod. I personally would be giving Suarez a bunch of reps at SS between now and the end of the season. I don't think we will get Cozart back. He will get more than the Reds will choose to pay him. That bothers me, but that's the reality. I've always been a fan of him, and it's been pleasant to really see him break out this year, and like Suarez, much of it has been due to listening to Votto, and increasing the amount of pitches they see, and picking the one location. This is why I don't think Cozart will slide backwards either; I digress.
Senzel is not a great 3rd baseman, nor is he as athletic as Suarez is. Because of that, I don't think you can move him to the middle of the infield. I also do not think Peraza is any good, so he's not even an option for me. I would personally like to see Senzel at 3rd, hope and pray that Suarez can play SS, and then bank on Herrera at 2nd base. That kid hasn't had the most fortunate year, but I believe he can flat out hit (even though he hasn't much of this year). If that doesn't work, then you have Scooter at 2nd base. In a perfect world, I'd take Senzel at 3rd base, Cozart at SS, and Suarez at 2nd base, but that's not going to be an option.

When I did a little fact checking I was super impressed and thought this would garner some interest. Geno really has done the work at D and I could see him middle infield again no problem. The Votto influence is definitely real. Just want to say good call on Cozart. You always believed in him over the years and he is being that guy you always thought he would be. I love him for not only what he does but he is a great clubhouse guy and that means a lot for a rebuilding team. As for the rest of the infield I think it will be better than you think. I am prejudiced in favor of Latinos. Peraza has hit nearly everywhere his whole life and those players know American baseball is their lottery. They can play and they aren't taught sabermetrics like college graduate players in this country. If you are a power hitter like Miguel Cabrera it's easy to teach walks. But if you a lightweight they are not going to give you the respect. I see Billy Hamilton failing at the plate at an older age. I see Peraza failing at the plate I can still envision him hitting. I seriously think he can hit any baseball near the plate for a hit. Problem is him laying off dogshit. He is learning. Anyway you had a gut instinct about Cozart and through the vitriol you IMO were proven right. Bear with me on Peraza. I just have a sense he is capable of a lot. As a person with what I think is a torn labrum I think Dilson Herrerra is not even playing with the same injury. Who the hell knows what he will amount to. I saw Sheldon mention this and I'm like "How can anybody pencil in DH in any position?". He was mediocre before the DL. Not seeing him penciled in anywhere! Sheldon is a hoot sometimes!

Rod, I would love to catch a game. Too much stuff going on at home right now. We have been talking about doing this for years. We need to plan it out for next season. I think it would be a blast to meet as many guys on here as possible. Chris,Eric,Fla,Davis,Clay,40,Andy,Clinz,VB,Foul and if I forgot anyone on the baseball side I didn't mean too old age makes me forget sometimes. But I think everyone on here are good guys and would love to catch a game. I know most of us are strung out in several different states but hopefully if we could come together on a date in 2018 summer maybe at least 4-5 of us could make it.

As long as I get about 2 week's notice I can go down any time. I love September games.
