Well in the last 5 series we have but 4 quality starts. 3 of them belonging to Castillo. Which says it all. On the year we have 38 of 122 quality starts(31%). Which is a horribly amazing feat. Castillo could have had his best start of the year were he not pulled for a pinch hitter. He had a 2 hit shutout going after 6 innings but only had 80 pitches at the time. Can't say enough about this kid. But besides that we could have won both these last 2 series. Losing 2 games on walkoff wild pitches. That is also an amazing feat when the 2 sides of your pitching are sporting 9.00 and 6.32 ERA's! But we have scored 4 or more runs in 6 of the last 7 games. And the surge in offense has boosted us up to 10th place in runs scored. When this team is in one of these grooves it's fun to watch despite what is happening on the mound. I still think if we had gotten steady starting pitching, even of the mediocre variety we would be looking at an entirely different outcome. I said it back in mid May, " there is a lot of good baseball this team is playing that will be forgotten in the final outcome of another lost season". While from the outside looking in it looks like contention is far far away. But much like after the 2009 season I think we are right on the cusp of good things again. It just needs and effortful push in the right direction.
