Doc pretty much says it all here: www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/2017/07/17/doc-reds-showing-signs-future/103782336/I'm starting to agree, I dont see how this team is going to be able to compete two or three years down the road. All of our potential seems to be floundering or a bust. We haven't created one standout player in a long time. The Reds management are starting to sound more like snake oil salesmen at this point. Anyone here who still has a glimmer of hope for this team please convince me otherwise.

I agree. We are 4 years removed from a winning season and more importantly the 11th year into an ownership who said they would "Bring championship baseball back to Cincinnati". We are seeing the 2nd worst starting pitching in Reds history(since 1882) and there are no answers on the horizon. Clinz thought I was nuts when I said we need to pump some cash into this rotation. I think it is a necessity at this point. In March we were hoping for a mediocre rotation. If we get that we have a winning record. 6.12 rotation isn't going to cut it. And you can't harp on the injury excuse this deep into it. Injuries happen. You just cracked your 2nd decade of ownership so don't tell me you have a fucking plan. You spend $ on such an embarrassing and historic weakness. All else are bullshit rationalizations. I have been sick of it for a while and I am a pretty optimistic guy overall.

I have been saying all year they should have sank or swam with Stephenson, Reed instead of Adelman, Arroyo. We know 100% that Adelman and Arroyo will not be on any future contending team. They are not the future. I doubt Stephenson or Reed are either. But both do have poetinal upside. We still don't know what either can do in the big leagues because neither has been given say 10-15 straight starts. This was supposed to be a rebuding year. In a rebuilding year aren't you suppose to see kids play and see if they are big leaguers or not. The worse thing to happen to this club this year was for the division to be weak. It give managment false hope that they could contend. I never thought for one minute they could with Arroyo in any rotation. I am not high on Stephenson but look at how the kid has been jerked around by this team. Bullpen to start year go 10 days at a time without pitching then they wonder why a guy who has control problems can't throw strikes. You can't sit a kid for 10 days at a time and expect good control. Again I have harped on this forever but we all should know by now that Hamilton can't hit. He is never gonna be more than 240-250 with a 300 obp. That folks is not a leadoff hitter. Winker was up for over a week gets one start. goes 1-2 with 3bb. on base 4 times. His reward back to AAA today. They would rather a under .300 OBP guy leadoff because fast guys who can't hit must leadoff in Price's and Dusty's world.

I'm with you on Winker but you need to retire the Reed/Stephenson argument. They are mediocre in Louisville. Next...
And next is outside options.

Floundering
I'm saying that because I've become numb towards the Reds I still watch a lot of games but mostly in pieces.
Still waiting for some of the young pitchers to step it up. Romano and Castillo weren't on the top of the list at the start of the year but they are now
Hamilton and Peraza were supposed to be top of the order hitters and both have terrible OBP
I like Duvall.
Mostly just numb. Don't get upset with the losses or over excited with the wins

And another shit outing by a starter Romano 6 runs all earned Cingrani gives up two more.
8-2
All 15k fans thinking how to beat traffic home

I agree about putting some money into the rotation, but this team doesn't have a history of pumping cash into anything except for re-signing established players. When they do sign established players, they are usually washed up and for one year deals anyway like Rolen, Ludwick, Choo (although Choo was awesome), and Byrd. Right now this team couldn't compete in a Triple A division.
When and who was the last major signing/ trade this team has had?

There is a lot of smart talk but more importantly there has been a great deal of good baseball squandered this year by ownership rationalizations. It's as if they proceed unaware of things we absolutely know are an embarrassment and act like Buddha in their great wisdom. They are full of shit IMO.

I can't remember any major trade in recent history where we didn't get fucked, but Griffey is the last big name signing I can remember.....yep, it's been that long. (well, technically Griffey was a trade but he was going to be a Red even if traded for a case of Malamars). Rebuilding or floundering? Definitely floundering due to the FO being too stupid to know how to rebuild.
