At the end of last series we were all waiting for the offense to come around. They had scored 18 runs in the first 5 games and were hitting below the Mendoza line with RISP. Well since then they have scored 30 runs in the last 4 games. The RISP was lacking til the last 2 games where they went 9 for 23(.391 RISP).
The stats are absolutely exploding. We are 3rd in Runs(48)(5.33 per), we are 3rd in average matching our 2nd half(.277), 8th in OBP(.332), 2nd in SLG(.485), and 2nd in OPS(.818). We lead baseball with 11 steals.. We jumped from .160 to .244 with RISP in 2 games! Only Votto and Schebler are off to slow starts as Barnhart and Peraza picked it up tonight and don't look now but Geno Suarez is becoming a presence at the dish giving tremendous all round plate appearances. He has gone 12 for 28 and leads the team with 5 walks. This series to have a team OPS over .800 is simply amazing. And doing this vs Taillon and Nova tonight was no small feat. These are solid pitchers. We can hit.
And more in exploding stats. We are leading baseball with a 2.48 ERA. We are 2nd in strikeouts with 86 for a 9.7 K9. But in case you were worried we are getting groundballs too. We have 91 GO to 55 AO. We are 11th as a starter and 1st as a reliever. If we can get the quality start train a rollin regular we are in business. We have had 4 in 9 starts. The contagion is spreading as Reed and Stephenson bounced back with nice outings. I expect Reed to make the next start for Davis. He was phenomenal the other night. Walks with Finnegan and Davis were the only blemishes on the pitching line. Defense had 1 unearned run on 1 error but we remain 2nd in Fielding %.
All in all we have the talent and the belief and we are seeing the results. Could not have asked for a better start. And boy does it feel good after the last few seasons. Let's suspend all judgments and concerns.
