Let's start the 2017 Minor League Report with a roundup of our top prospect rankings: The consensus top 4 are Senzel, Garrett, Winker, and Robert Stephenson, with Senzel being an unanimous #1. It's fairly safe to say at this point Senzel is also a Top 25 prospect in the game. Outside of this opinions of the system vary quite a bit. The organization ranked anywhere between #8 & 15 in baseball. As far as an individual player goes, the most diverse opinion is with recent Cuban signing RHP-Vladimir Gutierrez, who is as high as #3 in one ranking, and as low as #20 in another, and most somewhere in between. You also have guys like future star bullpen arm Jimmy Herget & the young Hawaiian Ian Kahaloa in the top #10 in a couple of rankings, but unranked by others. In the chart, I went through the Top 10, and highlighted in green the players who were given their highest ranking by that organization, if a player is highlighted red, it is the lowest the player was ranked. Also of note, Cody Reed showed up on a few lists, but lost prospect status and wasn't eligible in others.

Herget mowed them down all year in Daytona last year as he was the most dominant reliever in the league. It may be stretch for him to break with the big the Reds this year, but it would not shock me to see him skip AA and head straight to AAA. Good kid

Good kid Brad I feel that way with any prospect that is targeted as a starting pitcher. But think completely differently for a pure reliever prospect. My philosophy with any of them is if they appear good enough=they are. In this one aspect I would like to see an aggressive approach like this.

To me it really is "Official" that baseball is underway when the minors start. With the top end of the system loaded with prospects this will be nearly as interesting as the big club.
PLay ball!

Who the hell is Rob Wooten?!!! LOL PLus is Herrerra playing in the field? Yea...Herrera was at 2B last night RHP Wooten,31, was a minor league free agent signed in the offseason. A former 13th rd pick in 2008 by Milwaukee. He made it to the majors between 2013-2015, going 4-5, 5.03ERA in 71 relief appearances for the Brewers. Interestingly, last night was his 8th career start since his was drafted. He'd been a life long reliever until Atlanta's AAA affiliate experimented with him in the rotation some last year.

The one thing I noticed in ST about Chacin is that for a big K pitcher he is not the standard type. The day I saw him he was using all offspeed type stuff and didn't appear to have much velocity.

He's definitely a different cat. The one thing he does do though is get dudes out. His fastball tops out around 92, and generally works in the high 80s-low 90s. He has an excellent changeup and a pretty successful slurve type pitch. Due to his makeup, he never begins the season as a team's closer, instead seeing that role go to a "big arm". Almost inevitably, by the time the year is over, he was taken over the job. He has 61 saves the past 3 years for a guy who didn't begin the year with the role. I'm very interested to see how he does this year. He is the closer on day one, but more importantly, will his stuff continue to translate. A lot more advanced hitters at the AAA level, so it will be interesting to see if he can still get a lot of guys out. If so, I think he'll make it to the Reds
