I played horseshoes yesterday and went to a funeral today. The term "Fuck the Bengals" sounds apropos!
They got not fun real fast didn't they? 77 we were noticing this shit late last year and we lost a board because we spoke up...We have talent. This coaching sucks cocks.
I realize that Mike Brown has improved as an owner, but he continues to make too many mistakes. Mistakes that even a casual football fan can detect.
Mistake #1: Retaining Marvin Lewis. Lewis has proven that he's not capable of winning playoff games as well as not being able to manage time outs/game clock; not disciplining players when appropriate; not standing for his players when appropriate; not getting in the face of officials when bad calls are made; not challenging plays (red flag) when obvious mistakes have been made by the officials; unwillingness to bench or waive over-the-hill veterans in favor of younger and more talented players (Michael Johnson vs. Will Clarke); keeps fans in the dark with obscure remarks during press conferences; arrogantly laughs off reporters questions even after losses; will not draft a highly talented player at a position that's manned by one of his 'friend players' (Domata Peko vs. Aaron Donald/Malcom Brown); shows no coaching creativity whatsoever; etc., etc., etc.
Mistake #2: (Related to mistake #1) Not bringing in a young, enthusiastic and innovative coach and allowing this coach to select his own assistants. I don't see Lewis ever winning the big one and I think it will be nearly impossible for him to get this current group to believe in him. The players realize that he doesn't have 'it' which begs the question: How can a player get himself to play his hardest, week in and week out, when he doesn't believe in the head coach?
Back in 2007, I posted for the first time on the Cincinnati Enquirer Message Board by posing the question of whether or not Marvin Lewis would ever hoist a Lombardi over his head as head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. The reason for that post was quite simple. I didn't see that 'extra something' in Lewis that most Super Bowl winning coaches and their staffs have. Some call it the 'it factor'. I call it out thinking your opponent. I noticed chinks in Lewis' coaching armor years prior and here we are debating these same 'chinks' (topics) nearly ten years later.
