Also I never said they shouldn't sign 2 FAs. I said they shouldn't sign a top receiver. Which is a mute point because there aren't any. They should sign 2 defensive players is they sign 2. One area the draft is short on is LBs. I have always said they should sign there own. Yes we were close to winning it all. If its not broke don't fix it. Keep our guys on defense. Our defense is what got us there. Iloka is more important than a receiver. Sign a couple more FA to make it even stronger. We can give opinions and be respectful of them but at the end of the day we aren't the ones sitting in the draft room so what does it matter.

Lost, you've got to be kidding me. This post is wrong in so many ways I don't know where to start. (But there are a few parts I agree with.) I never posted that we couldn't get any good DL in round 3 or later and those that follow my yearly mock drafts know better than that. And the Geno Atkins statement is silly. Using this logic, NFL teams should wait until the 6th round to draft a QB because Tom Brady was drafted in round 6. I also am more than aware that the Bengals rotate their line because ALL teams rotate their lines and have done so since the early days of football. (Note: I was a mentor/coach on a high school football team so I understand some aspects of the game that some do not and that's not an insult. It's just that playing and/or coaching football gives one insight that non-players and/or non-coaches can't comprehend.) But the most puzzling statement in your post was the suggestion that by signing two quality free agents, the Bengals will be throwing away $35 million. I'm confused but I'll do my best to clear this up. Teams with much less to spend sign quality free agents on almost a yearly basis and many of these teams win championships and this years Denver Broncos are a perfect example. The Bengals are gonna have to deal with free agents every year as all teams do. Some years they're gonna have more prominent players to work contracts out with and some years not so much. That's life in today's NFL. Here's what you don't seem to understand but maybe you do. The Bengals could have won the Super Bowl this past season if not for a few tough breaks. That's why the Bengals need to do as much as they can during this off-season to put together the best team possible for 2016. To forfeiture the upcoming season by not making the team as strong as possible all because of fears about the signing of 2017 free agents is shortsightedness. Besides, the Bengals can sign a couple of really good free agents now, all their 2016 draft picks and still have a lot of money left over for future free agents. And what we're not factoring into this is the money they'll save this year and next by restructuring some current contracts or waiving players outright. And there's always a chance the cap goes even further up giving them even more room as it did this year! Once again, the Bengals have put themselves in a great situation financially and they have a competitive team on the verge of winning it all. There's no excuse for not using some of this cap space to sign some good players in an attempt to get them over the hump. Boy you really struck a nerve here. Fans and teams get lulled into competitive complacency. They get good and think it's going to go on and on and on forever. They can't imagine being not good again. And it happens over night. It strikes like a thunderbolt. This run we are on. It could evaporate before our very eyes. I thought it was going to happen last season and I think Dalton's inexplicable turnaround inspired the defense to play inspired ball also. But this group is not going to be competitive forever. And because of that reality you need to go for it at some point. It takes the Bengals a long time to learn things. I hope this lesson has been learned or this window will evaporate too. I don't believe the team is getting complacent at all. They have a plan and are sticking with it. It starts with drafting the right players and hopefully they pan out. Then signing their own FA. They have to make the right call on who to keep and hope that pans out . Keep that cycle going. So far they have been making the right calls. With Duke on top they're going to get it right more than wrong. Prioritize need. By doing this the Bengals can and will be competitive for more years to come. Why can't they make the playoffs 10 years in a row. With this infrastructure I'm buying in and have faith in this organization.

But these windows of opportunity open and close with no warning. After 2005 did you think it would take as long as it did to get back to the playoffs? I remember us talking in summer of 2012 and it looked like we were entering a new golden age of Reds baseball with committed owners. That fizzled out and is gone. I think the team can leap over the single playoff win goal and go further. With Dalton finding himself last season we have the golden opportunity in front of us. They need to utilize all assets they have available to them to maximize this opportunity. It's not a matter of not believing in what they are doing but in wondering how much further are they willing to go to seize the day? It's a good question Linz.

This post misrepresents my stance on a lot of different points. (But there are a few parts I agree with.) PS - I edited this post because it was too aggressive and came across in a way that wasn't kind. My bad. -77 If you go back and look you said only 4 DTs were worthy of 1st rd picks. I simply disagree with that. And if you have to get angry and be unkind because someone doesn't agree with you that's on you. Your not the only one on the board who has intelligent opinions or knows more about football. Calm down lost. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you. I just find it frustrating when my posts or statements are misrepresented and I have to go back and clarify them even though they're fairly straight forward. I don't mind if people disagree with me and post their opinions as to why. That's a good debate to have. But what does 4 DTs worthy of a first round pick have to do with anything? I'm not following your thinking. And like it or not, those that have played and/or coached do have a better understanding of the game than those that haven't and it's silly to suggest otherwise. However, that doesn't mean that non-players and/or non-coaches should be ignored. They too have opinions which should be heard and treated as all other opinions are.

Not verbatim, but the implication was there. I've posted several times that the Bengals should sign two quality free agents to make up for any players they may lose and to gain some ground on teams such as Denver, New England, Pittsburgh, etc. You posted that the Bengals shouldn't blow their $35 million on free agents because they have more free agents to sign in 2017. How do you expect anyone to take this statement any other way than the way I did and apparently a few others? If its not broke don't fix it. Did you see the meltdown in the playoffs vs. the Steelers? It 'broke' right in front of everyone's eyes costing the Bengals the game and possibly the Lombardi trophy. A loss like that could have devastating effects on the team for years to come. It needs fixed lost. If you continue to do the same old thing over and over, year after year, guess what? You're gonna get the same results. I know you want the Bengals to win the Super Bowl as much as any other Bengal fan, but they need to make some changes to make that happen in my opinion? Do you agree with that? Also, what do you think the Bengals should do with all of the cap space that they've accumulated?

Why can't they make the playoffs 10 years in a row. With this infrastructure I'm buying in and have faith in this organization. They do have a plan and I love their plan. But is it not wise to suggest that they can IMPROVE upon their plan in light of January's playoff meltdown? I love the way the Bengals are handling the salary cap and free agency for the most part. But if their plan is left in place without any changes and/or improvements, we should all expect the same results; right? Think about it. This plan has been in place since Dalton arrived in 2011 and it has produced five straight playoff berths (good) and five straight loses (bad). So, is the suggestion that the Bengals should spend some of that $35 million on some free agents in order to better the team such a bad idea? I think not and I'll bet the Bengals don't either. Don't be surprised if the Bengals do end up signing Marvin Jones which many thought was a pipe dream. www.cincyjungle.com/2016/2/28/11130528/bengals-prioritizing-marvin-jones-adam-jones-mohamed-sanu-likely-gone

Lost and 77 you both do a great job with your eyes and ears everywhere. You aren't going to agree on everything. Just please don't stop what you do because of it. Love reading your stuff. I love conversing with lost, especially during draft time. Unfortunately, some of my posts don't come across as I intend which can cause hard feelings and that's on me, not lost. For example, the post that I went back and edited wasn't meant to come across as being aggressive. The 'tone' of that entire post was based on sarcasm, not anger but I don't blame her for taking it the wrong way. When you're posting on-line, some of the human nuances of communicating aren't present which causes posts to be taken the wrong way.
