The glory that was the Cardinals series has evaporated but what a series it was. Always feels good to beat them in a series with their playoff hopes on the line. Since then? Writing was on the wall. Including the 2 games this Pirates series our Slugging % has been below .400 in 5 of the last 7 series. Couple that with the fact we have gotten 2 quality starts in the last 7 games and it's no wonder we finally hit a skid. Anyhow we won tonight. Here is the contrast of stats for the 2 prior series. We saw Disco Friday night with a nice win in the 9th followed by fireworks. Then watched Stephenson Monday. He didn't look to bad besides 2 bad pitches. It was Bruce's first game back which was cool.

Remember me telling you I was proud of this team to be hitting and walking and not being HR dependent? LOL! Little did I know the lack of power was becoming an epidemic. Bad when that SLG % dips below .400 continuously. That Friday game to start the weekend was fantastic. Disco is the only one to have the 2 quality starts in the last 7 games. He is a solid rotation cog. Stephenson IMO should have been the one recalled when we needed a starter. Reed was scurried along also IMO to drum up public interest when the team was waning. Stephenson might have pouted like a bitch and underperformed but I think he has the makeup of a major leaguer. He is innings challenged right now but he hasn't allowed more than 3 ER in any of his 4 starts. I think he will get better with time and he has a certain mound presence much like ring generalship. We'll have to hit a game this month when we have a cool, fall like day. I love those in September! Despite this skid I am excited about what the future holds for this team. |
