It's not cut and dry shine for any aspect of the team this series but we are playing like a team that picks each other up and makes it happen and we won yet another series. Pretty solid to win 3 after a game 1 loss vs a team with playoff aspirations despite them losing Stanton. We are playing with some patchwork. Team concept is shining through. Offense at least getting some hits but more importantly taking good at bats and getting on base and the power and clutch hitting when needed. Pitching starters struggling to get innings but doing just good enough work. Picked up by a bullpen who have seemingly redeemed themselves. Again it just overall feels like a team effort.

Yep, this team is battling. I've not been too pleased with Price, who has even made me miss Dusty, but I'll give Price some credit. This team continues to battle, and going into the break with one of the worst records in the game, they have not quit. It says a lot about a manager when his team doesn't quit on him, after the disaster they were in the 1st half. I also see less (still see them), boneheaded moves by Price these days. I guess maybe he isn't as desperate now that he has a much better bullpen, and guys are picking it up offensively. Everyone tends to talk about the bullpen as the turnaround but one can't ignore what the two veterans, Votto and BP have done since the break. Those guys have been on fire. Hamilton and Suarez have also picked it up. The two keys for me, in whether this team will take off, is if Winker and Senzel can be OBP machines with legitimate power. Everything else is looking good, but the keys for me, are those two youngsters; even more than whether Mesoraco comes back. Catching on this team is not a problem right now.

He's not a critical piece to this puzzle anymore. He should be no more than a backup catcher at this point. He's proved he's too injury prone to play everyday. Barnhart has been efficient enough to be the starter next year with Mez backing him up. That is if Mez can play long enough without spraining his vagina.

It's August and that in itself makes me lazy to the point I am not breaking out post allstar stats but I looked at them after the fact. I'm watching the Reds nearly every night and what I am seeing is good at bats and guys hitting the ball. This team is visually different than earlier in the season. I think the Bruce trade really struck a chord in them that it is not only time to move on but form a new identity. Billy working with Votto, the guy is a different baseball player. God damn man we have been waiting for the residual Votto effect! Thank god. The whole team has been better with strike zone recognition. As you mentioned Suarez is taking good at bats and working counts not to mention he is vastly improved defensively. Duvall impressed me this spring when he was using the whole field. He slumped after the break and is again using the whole field. Intelligent. BP as much as I wanted him out of the way has played great baseball. A not uncommon phenomenon for an older player. It takes them months to heat up then they are a wrecking ball. Anyway long story short this is the baseball team we thought we would see. I am glad to see the evolution. I am baseball through and through. The game itself is great. To see the Redlegs playing good baseball again soothes the soul!

" That is if Mez can play long enough without spraining his vagina". That is an instant man classic right there! But seriously because of his history you have to pencil guys out like that. They can't be counted on. Tucker is proving his mettle on all fronts. We don't need to think about the position you know? We are always wanting the next Johnny Bench because we are Cincinnati Reds fans but it's not a necessity. Good is good enough!
