Everything a coach can do for the benefit of the team should be done regardless of how insignificant it may seem. So, I'm going to take a page out of Sam Wyche's 'playbook' and suggest to the Bengals coaching staff to assign roommate(s) instead of the players picking and choosing their own roommates.
The reason for doing such is quite simple. It brings about stronger team unity and when defensive players are rooming with offensive players, both players learn a respect for one another and how difficult playing any position can be. It's also an opportunity for players to bond that they never really had the opportunity to get to know. Players with a history of having off the field problems being assigned a roommate that is more or less a model citizen can have a positive influence on that troubled player. A few examples would be having A.J. Green rooming with Dre Kirkpatrick; Geno Atkins rooming with Russell Bodine; Adam Jones rooming with Brandon LaFell; Vontaze Burfict rooming with Giovani Bernard; Andrew Whitworth rooming with Michael Johnson; etc., etc., etc. Having Adam Jones room with Dre Kirkpatrick serves no good purpose and this is just one of many examples I could list so don't think I'm picking on Jones. I want the best for him and this team and that's the purpose of this post.
Making such a move(s) starting now will eventually pay dividends and it will also lead to less off the field problem overall. It worked great for Sam and those '88 Bengals so why not give it a try considering how close this team is getting to doing some great things. The Bengals have nothing to lose. -77
