Vladimir Gutierrez's Wednesday Report:
The Reds have signed 20-yr Cuban RHP Vladimir Gutierrez to a contract. MLB has him as the 4th ranked International prospect in the 2016-17 signing season(Alfredo Rodriguez was ranked 8th). He can touch 97 with his fastball, and has an above average hammer curve. The one area of improvement needed is control. He does project out as a starter, but scouts feel he can make it to MLB far faster if he is used in the back of the bullpen. He signed for $4.5M bonus, and the Reds have to pay an additional $4.5M in luxury tax for exceeding their pool allotment. Overall, I like this signing a lot...much better than the Rodriguez one.
