After hitting a grand slam in round one by selecting LSU QB Joe Burrow, the Bengals can now start building around him in both rounds two and three. The Bengals are going to receive offers from many clubs that want to move up, but the Bengals should stay pat at 33 and select an impact player that can contribute this year. Here are those selections.
Round Two: Josh Jones, OT, Houston. As I stated earlier, I'm sure the Bengals are receiving many trade offers from other teams who are seeking to move up and select an impact player. The problem with trading down is that many of these clubs want to select the one player that Cincy so desperately needs in one Josh Jones. The Bengals are lucky that Jones is still available and if I were them, this pick would already be in. The Bengals can trade down (or up) in other rounds if and they so choose and they have the option of trading Dalton for an additional pick. Getting Burrow more protection should be the Bengals number priority for the remainder of the draft. Drafting two G's on day three wouldn't be a bad idea.
Round Three: KJ Hamler, WR, Penn State. Fingers crossed on this pick. Most draft gurus predict that Hamler will be available at the top of round three, so I'll pencil him in, but I have my doubts on his availability. Hamler is a big play WR with tons of speed and separation ability. He's a bit small, but he plays big. Burrow will love having this guy on the roster.
This draft class is deep at the OT and WR positions and the Bengals take full advantage. On day two of the draft, the Bengals find some protection for Burrow and add a playmaker. This draft is tailor-made for the Bengals concerning their needs. They couldn't ask for more.

I’m a million percent down with Jones at 2. Would love a WR in round 3. I doubt Mims or Pittman will be there. I’d love to see them fall. I’d take Hamler a top at 3 though if all else fails. I believe if you get Burrow the protection he can make any WR better. The more weapons around Burrow the better.

The Bengals can go two ways in rounds two and three. They can fill holes or simply select the best player available. Jones is considered by some to be the BPA and he fills a need. I think DT Ross Blacklock is the BPA. A Geno Atkins clone. Mims has to be considered. No one could cover him at the Senior Bowl. I'm a bit surprised that Blacklock is still available. He's unblockable. The Bengals have a tough decision to make, but regardless of who they select, they'll be adding difference maker and the team will be just that much better.

Josh Jones is still on the board! Jones was projected to go in round one or early in round two. This indicates to me that he has a flaw of some sort and every team is aware of it. If not, he would've been picked by now. I wonder what's causing him to fall?
The Bengals continue to fill holes while building for the future and the Tee Higgins pick is a perfect example. The Bengals take full advantage of a WR rich draft and get a first round talent in round two. Great player. Great pick. Great value. Burrow will now have a WR corp made up of AJ Green, Tyler Boyd, John Ross, Auden Tate and now Tee Higgins. That's a solid group of receivers and with Burrow at QB, we may not have seen their best. There's a chance that Burrow will resurrect Ross' career. I sure hope so because Ross could become a nightmare for opposing defenses if he stays healthy and becomes consistent.
I absolutely love the Logan Wilson pick. The Bengals fill the last spot on defense that really needed an upgrade. Wilson is a tackling machine and a great pass defender. I could see him becoming a great pass rusher too. The Bengals basically run a 4-3 defense, but with the addition of DJ Reader and now Wilson, the Bengals can also run 3-4 defense on occasion. This would allow the Bengals to blitz Germain Pratt, Carl Lawson and now Wilson. The possibilities are endless of what they can now do on defense.
I think the Bengals are getting the guys they wanted and all three picks will contribute this year. That's huge. However, the Bengals play in the black-n-blue AFC North so it's important to add some big uglies with a mean streak and I think they'll do just that with their next pick. Adding a linemen at either G or OT in round four is a must. Adding another one in round five or six would be wise. Hopefully the o-linemen they're targeting are still available. Don't be surprised if one or both protected Joe at LSU.

Captians of the Draft. Six of the seven picks were Captians of their team. Smart players. I think it was a great Draft for the Bengals. All of these picks could make the team. The only disappointment I could have is that one of my favorite players, Erickson, may end up being cut.
