Hold the phone! The Bengals are finally operating like a REAL NFL TEAM! DJ Reader was an excellent free agent signing. Reader is going to make opposing offenses change their game plan because of his penchant for clogging the run. All the other signings will also go a long ways in making this team better. Here's some more good news. The team will be able to add more free agents and still be tens of millions of dollars under the cap once Andy Dalton is traded and Dre Kirkpatrick finds a new home. All the other cuts have also freed up more cap space ala Cordy Glenn, John Miller, BW Webb, etc. Adding OL, LBs and WRs through free agency and the draft makes the most sense at this point. Can't wait for the draft!!!
If they draft my ex-Athens High School student Joe Burrow (I love saying that) in round one, they're headed towards their first Super Bowl win and many more. It's dynasty time gang!

My thoughts exactly 77. Reader still has to pass the physical but I am not worried. Dalton trade doesn't look good. Most teams in need of a QB have filled their needs. The Bengals need some cap monies. They could release Dalton and save about $17M or take a low draft choice. I think other teams (especially the Patriots) are waiting for this release. A deal for Dalton doesn't look great at this time. I hated losing Fejedelem.

I'm actually glad Fejedelem signed with another team. I know he was a great special teamer, but his safety skills left a lot to be desired. His departure will force the Bengals to upgrade the position and they did just that today with the signing of Vonn Bell. Huge, huge upgrade. I know it's hindsight on my part, but moving on from Fejedelem was something that I personally wanted to happen. I think he's a good guy and a good teammate, but the position has been crying for an upgrade for sometime now. Shawn Williams can now focus on playing a role that best suits his skill set. Personally, I've never been a big fan of Williams. Good guy, but not much big play ability.
The Bengals need to trade Dalton ASAP. Waiting on the perfect trade scenario to unfold is foolhardy. It isn't going to happen. If the Bengals can get at least a fourth rounder for him, they should pull the trigger. Personally, I would like to see the Bengals extend Makensie Alexander if at all possible. He's a great CB, but he only signed for one year deal.

The first phase of the retransformation of the Cincinnati Bengals is huge ( but phase 2 Burrow is bigger). This phase was a necessity. It HAD to be done. It changes the mindset and reputation of the FO, the players, the league and for its fans. Don’t be afraid of this route. It is your friend. The goal here is to win more than you lose. Everyone loses every once in a while but don’t compound those mistakes by holding onto player too long. Cut bait and move on. Now to the players they’ve acquired. I love the remaking of the secondary. Coverage scores rate very high and so does the tackling. That’s huge in today’s NFL. Love the Reader move puts a big force right in the middle. Every move is an upgrade. The Bengals going this route opens up so much more for when the draft comes around. This could put them in contention for Super Bowls a lot faster.

Reader is going to be the key to the D. If he plays like I think he will, teams will have to think on who to double team. Atkins or Reader or both. It will allow DE to feast and put pressure on the QB giving secondary help.
