There's still a lot of players that can come in and help the Bengals at several positions. But DT and WR seem to be leading the way as far as positions that demand an upgrade within the next two rounds. C, LB and S also need an upgrade as well. Should the Bengals address one of these three positions before selecting a DT or a WR? Or should the Bengals go with the BPA at any of the five aforementioned positions? Or should they trade up in round two and land a stud like DT Andrew Billings? Personally, I would prefer the Bengals to go BPA (playmaker) at any of those five positions but I would absolutely consider trading up to land a playmaker.
Round two defensive considerations that may require a trade up: (?) = players I'm not sold on. DE/OLB Noah Spence, DE Emmanuel Ogbah, DT Andrew Billings, DT A'Shawn Robinson(?), ILB Reggie Ragland, OLB Myles Jack(?). Going into this draft, there were some highly rated players that I wasn't a big fan of. DT Jarren Reed of Alabama was one such player. Reed played on a great team and his numbers should've been through the ceiling; but they weren't. Looking at Reed's numbers and taking into consideration the team he played on, I don't have him going until round three. Simply put, the production isn't there. Reggie Ragland looks like a solid player, but should the Bengals address ILB over other positions like WR or DT? Myles Jack is a wild card in my book. Is his injury much more serious than we have been led to believe? Also, I think Jack is slightly overrated because of his ability to run the ball on offense. Therefore, I think the Bengals should only trade up in order to land Spence, Ogbah or Billings with Robinson and Ragland being second tier possibilities.
Round two offensive considerations that may require a trade up: WR Sterling Shepard, WR Tyler Boyd and WR Michael Thomas(?). That's it. There's a chance that WR Braxton Miller and C Nick Martin may fall to the Bengals in round two thus a trade up wouldn't be required.
If the Bengals stay put in round two and go offense: First of all it's important to note that ANY of the above players could fall to them. Like I've posted time and again, players fall in every round of every draft and they always will. However, when you take a look at all the players that remain, some have a more more realistic chance of falling to them than others. Here they are: WR Braxton Miller, WR Pharoh Cooper, WR Rashard Higgins(?), C Nick Martin and G Cody Whitehair. Miller, Cooper and Higgins make obvious sense but Higgins speed is worrisome. Martin would be a solid pick and Whitehair would give the Bengals some insurance considering G Kevin Zeitler's becoming a free agent after this year although I personally wouldn't make this selection.
If the Bengals stay put in round two and go defense: DT/DE Jonathan Bullard, DE Shilique Calhoun(?), DE Carl Nassib(?), FS Darian Thompson, OLB Kamalei Correa(?), OLB Su'a Cravens(?), OLB Deione Jones(?), S Jeremy Cash. Lots of good players but many question marks. Bullard, Thompson and Cash are my top three but Cravens and Jones are close. Calhoun has talent, but he's very thin. Nassib could be a steal, but he's slow... or is he just fast enough? Tough calls.
So what should the Bengals do? I don't know! But I'll give it a shot. The only players that the Bengals should consider trading up for is Spence, Billings, Shepard, Boyd, Thomas and Bullard although I think there's a chance he (Bullard) could fall as I indicated above. The reason I have three WRs listed has more to do with need than anything else.
So what should they do guys 'n' gals? Trade up? Stay put? And draft who? Personally, it's hard for me to see the Bengals NOT picking a WR in round two, but it could happen. WRs Keyarris Garrett, Malcom Mitchell, Roger Lewis, Kolby Listenbee, etc., should all be available to the Bengals in round three and later. There will absolutely, positively, be some WRs drafted in round three and later that will turn into really good ones.
