A buddy of mine from work (a braves fan) called me and told me about this. It does seem like the Reds' FO really does want to win and right away! Good riddance to Bailey, should have been him instead of Cueto years ago. Finally, the Reds appear to not have gotten fleeced in a trade!

Dodgers releasing Bailey. its a salary dump for L.A. there going all in on trying to sign Harper. we still dont have a true CFer unless they think Senzel can play it. and we once again have 4 OFers. I still think Puig or Kemp or Winker or maybe Schebler gets traded for more pitching. one of our OFers and either Senzel or Scooter probably gets dealt be feb.

Williams interviewed and said we're not done yet. They have plenty of resources to make more acquisitions in the very near future. Interesting.

Kemp Puig and Wood all free agents at seasons end. Plus we gave up two decent prospects in deal. I am scared we now trade Winker or Senzel. If we do they better lock up Puig or Wood to a extension.

Absolutely LOVE this deal. Sure wish Rod was around. Would love the hear his take. That was my first thought too Chris. What a deal for the Reds. You get three MLB players for a washed up overpaid cancerous locker room slug. I'm ok dealing the prospects. 1) neither played aboved A ball. 2) they're still a few years away from making the major league roster. They might not ever make an impact. 3) Jeter is blocked by numerous infield talent. 4) this helps your 2019 team instantly. 5) if it goes wrong you're only tied to one year deals. You can flip these guys at trade deadline to replenish minor league system for the two guys you traded. The Reds still have money to spend on a FA pitcher. At this point I think I'd take a chance on trying to sign Keuchel. I don't like the years he's looking for but they might have to overpay. This move could help the Reds pitching staff immensely. We would have guys who eat innings, keep the ball on the ground and won't overuse our good bullpen. By doing this you still keep your top prospects. The everyday lineup looks like it has potential to put up big numbers. Dick Williams said they're not done yet. It sounds promising for the near future and beyond. Baseball can't get here soon enough.

Hope we keep Gennet and Barnhart. Need a centerfielder and another starter to make some real noise probably. As far as the pieces to get them not too sure. Have to say I'm getting somewhat excited and haven't been that way about the Reds for several years.

. I still think Puig or Kemp or Winker or maybe Schebler gets traded for more pitching. This is the word I'm hearing on the street too. Possibly keep Puig, but Kemp will be used as trade bait for a decent starting pitcher. It's a good possibility neither of these two will be a Red on opening day. Wood isn't going anywhere though.

I doubt we ever get much if anything for Kemp. He would be a guy the Reds would have to play most of his salary for a team to take him. Don't get me wrong I think he still has something left in tank. If he can stay healthy he should be playing against LHP and power bench bat on other days. But he is expensive for that role. I am with Linz on this. I hope we just sign Kuechal this way we keep out prospects. Kluber is hands down the better pitcher. But unless Cleveland would take Puig and a couple prospects not named Trammel, Winker or Senzel which I doubt they would. Id go for Kuechal. I think Puig will mash in GABP but if he does he will be looking for a monster payday next year. We should look for a stop gap cheaper Veteran CFer. till Trammel is ready. Unless they don't think Senzel can play CF. One thing nobody is talking about is our defense. IMO it is goint to be horrible. Puig and Kemp are not good in the field neither her is Winker or Schebler. Suarez, Scooter and Votto are horrible. I did read a article about Peraza that he is working hard to improve his defense. I have never been to high on Peraza but he improved with bat a whole bunch last 4 months of the season. Kid is said to be a tireless worker and good for him. Makes it easy to root for him. Still we may be the worst defensive team in baseball.

I'm a fan of the trade too. We in a sense got Kemp, Puig, & $7M to dump Homer's contract, who we would have likely cut anyway. We got assets for dead money...can't beat that. I really like Alex Wood in the rotation, and think Roark is a nice pickup as well. As for the prospects we lost, I think we'll be fine. Long term, I like Gray more than Downs, but both have the potential to be replaced:
We play bad, but Puig & Wood do well, then we'll get better prospects than Downs & Gray at the July deadline We play well, and Puig/Wood do well, then we'll give Qualifying Offer at the the end of the year, which if they turn down, would net us the same draft positions we got Downs & Gray...so the prospects will wash itself out.
I do believe Williams when he says there's more in play. Instead of Kluber, maybe make a run at Trevor Bauer with Scheb/Winker in the package to clear a spot. Maybe we can have enough money to sign Pollack & a Wade Miley. The CF market is very bare...based on WAR, Billy Hamilton was the 2nd best guy out there behind Pollack. Unless we can get another CF, we could potentially have one of the worst OF defenses in baseball
I can't wait to see Puig in uniform. Hopefully he can have a monster year in GABP!

I believe we have our CF’er on the team already. Michael Lorenzen. The Reds have enough arms. Put him out there and see what he can do. What would it hurt? The Reds could have a gem on their hands. See what he’s like in center, on the base pads, at the plate. It would help free up some salary and make guys available through trade. Then trade for another pitcher.
