Imagine this: Winker Senzel Votto Gennett Suarez Schebler Barnhart Peraza
Think about the OBP of this lineup. Obviously the Senzel thing is a bit of a long shot, because this lineup means he's in CF. It sure does look like the best Reds lineup that we have seen in a long, long, time though. Spend some big dollars on a Free Agent starter acquisition along with a big trade for a starter, and possibly another bullpen piece, and this team might be a LOT better than many expect. Defense would be a bit question mark though; that's where they would differ from the 2010, and 2012 teams.

Chris , I got a sick feeling that Winker is going to be traded to a A.L. team. I hope I am wrong. IMO that would be a mistake. Also hope Pollock is not signed. Would be lucky if they could get 81 games a season out of Pollock.

Winker is similar to a Sean Casey; he can roll out of bed and hit a double into the gap. They don't come around often. I'd be shocked if he were dealt.

Winker is staying. I like Chris’ idea of signing Happ then trade for Kluber. Another pitcher I’d look into is Trevor Cahill, decent era , over 50% ground ball rate last year. Does get injured though.

Just read that any Kluber deal the Indians would want Winker.

Heh... I think that's probably nothing more than a rumor. Because I think I would have to go for that. Just depends on how much more it would cost. But I'd rather have a top notch pitcher and be looking for an outfielder... than the other way around.

Reds just go Tanner Roark for Tanner Rainey. Nats dumping salary. Roark is a free agent at seasons end. One of only 12 guys to throw at least 180 inns the last 3 seasons. Rainey is garbage. I know nothing about Roark.

I didn't think Rainey was that bad. Wild, yes... but if he had control at all, he banged the hell out of the zone. Which is a lot better than some of the rejects we've been running out to the mound for awhile. But, yeah, he was getting torched. I think he would have settled down into the job eventually though.
Roark is a starter. He'll go 30+ starts for 180+ innings. If he can improve on the low 4 ERA that he's been working at with the Nats, he'll be a nice addition. But right now, I don't view him as anything as a back-end rotation guy, especially for what we're wanting. Still, to get Roark for just Rainey seems like a pretty damn good move.

Roark was a nice, dependable, surprise on my fantasy team back in 2017, and I ended up picking him up late again last year after some early season struggles. His ERA was under 3.5 after the All-Star Break. Ground ball guy. He's not an ace by any means, but should be a solid #3-4 who can be counted on to eat some innings...which is something we didn't have last year.
Rainey was who multiple teams have asked about in a return for a trade, as he's a guy who can potentially be a closer once he gets his control on lock down. All in all, probably a good trade. Reds get a solid rotation piece who'll provide a lot of quality innings for a guy with high potential...if he figures it out.

Love this trade. NO, it's not the big deal we are hoping for, and waiting for, but deals like this are positive if made in conjunction with some big ones. Rainey has a great arm, but his 6bb/9in is not going to fly, especially at GABP. Will he get better control in the future? Who knows, but for the Reds he was disposable. Roark has had some really nice years, and as Brad mentioned, he was very solid 2nd half of last season. These are the kind of moves that people will appreciate mid season.
